What is it?
Eriophyid mites are many different types of translucent, microscopic mites that cause deformities in many plant species. They feed on cells under the plant surface and causes abnormalities of plant tissues such as witches’ brooms, curled leaves, galls, yellowed leaves. They also serve as an alternative food source for predatory mites, which can help control outbreaks of other pests.
Symptoms
- Different abnormal growths on leaves, stems, buds and fruit.
- For example: small galls on leaves, stems and buds, leaf blisters, erineum on leaves.
Damages
- Damage to tree health is negligible.
- Mostly cosmetic issues.
What to do?
- No chemical treatment is needed.
- Regular pruning to remove infested parts.
