What is it?
Aspen trunk rot is a wood decaying fungus happens on aspen exclusively.
Symptom
- Several hard, hoof-shaped fruiting bodies, with blackish, rough and cracked upper surface attached on tree trunk. The underside is brown in colour.
Damages
- Rot the tree trunk within 4-6 years and cause a significant amount of wood decay.
- No external indicators of showing how much decay of the wood, potential risk often easily neglected.
- High risk of tree failure.
What to do?
- Regular monitor and check your aspen tree to identify any fruiting bodies and potential diseases.
- Remove hazard tree to prevent damage.
